Trek 930 SS Updated

I soon will be starting my winter project, which will be renovating my recently purchased Trek 930.

I want to make the bike into a daily commuter as bicycle is my only means of transport and pretty much the only means in Sweden. So the Trek will need to operate in Snow, Rain, Mud and some rare sunshine and withstand about 70 kms of cycling a week. I also want the bike to have some exercise abilities.

Fork: Factory

Headset: Tange 1" threaded.
Stem: Systems components quill, polished.
Handlebar: Bianchi built bars, polished.

Brakes: Shimano Cantis.
Brake Pads: Shimano.
Brake Cables: Shimano.
Cantilever cable hangers: Shimano.
Brake Levers: Generic.

Chain: Single speed.
Cranks: Shimano XT Deore.
Crank Bolts: Factory.
Chainrings: Shimano.
Chainring bolts: Factory.
Bottom Bracket: Shimano XT.
Pedals: VP.

Hub Skewers: Shimano Deore LX.
Rims: Japanese brand.
Hubs: Shimano Deore LX.

Tyres: Chen Shin.
Saddle: Selle Master.
Seatpost: Klein.

As you can see I am trying to keep most part retro but just not specific to Trek time period. I will be building the bicycle on a budget of hopefully 150 pounds, bicycle cost 60 pounds. Total cost was 70 pounds

I've also recently registered on RB, and am an englishman living in Stockholm. I'm starting my fist build soon.....

The trek seems an interesting project, and you should get the bits within budget (difficult to get "retro" stuff in Sweden though?)

Can't help with powdercoating ("pulverlakering"?) contacts, but i'm sure there are quite a few companies in Malmö who can help. Just do a search on nordicnet.se or something like that (?)

I refitted my commuter Trek with some new parts, used this website to work out the perfect set up with the chain, http://eehouse.org/fixin/formfmu.php. Pretty happy with the final product and good to ride and rather light for a steel frame. Took it for a ride in the snow, seems great although you can't get out the saddle with this gearing ratio and tire combination, damn snow.
