building up a dirt cheap 1x7 commuter & having priced up mech's & shifters, i can get brand new SRAM x3 set for under £25 or alivio for about £35.

i'm using x9 on my main ride at the moment and it feels a lot slicker than previous deore / lx offerings and i was wondering how the x3 compared to lower end shimano stuff.

they are on crc - its about £12 for a rear shifter and similar again for the rear mech.

i personally prefer the sram ones, due to the thumb thumb combo
they are on par similarly though

i think i'll just go for it and hope for the best! i'd assume they've got to perform on a par with early 90's deore at the very least which makes them useable for what i need!

i did write a long reply before but my router was playing games just as i posted it :(

anyway
i prefer my current setup x7/x9 shifter/mech over my deore/lx shifter/mech
the shimano feels clunky but hasnt had as long as the sram to be finely adjusted

i used to have trx shifters with a fairly old quite scabby alivio mech, but this setup worked almost aswell as my setup now, probably better than deore

the mrs has sx5 which works quite well
i guess alot of it is setup magic
but id still side with the sram i guess
