The hub is a Campagnolo Nuovo Tipo/Gran Sport.
Not into cars these days but remember my elder sisters boyfriend in his Ford Escort Mexico as the coolest guy on earth. So I do have some notion what you mean. 
The Tipo's fit into the same category as the Escort, so even if they were at the bottom of the hierarchy, they work great and were imho some of the best looking hubs ever.
I have a set and they polish up just fine. Now on a hunt for a longer axle to convert the rear hub to 7-sp.
As the available Maxi-Car's are drying out they've become quite sought after amongst 'randonneards' and some spare no effort...!
