Iron Horse SGS Pro DH '04 rebuild

Let's get this DH beast rollin' again! Going to do my usual strip down and re-powder coat job and replace the pivot bearings etc. Not sure what spec to build it to yet... Period, trick or budget?

Since purchasing the frame I've discovered it runs a humongous 165mm rear hub and a 100mm BB shell. I don't know anything about rear wheel geometry and stuff like that but I'm assuming I could run a superboost rear hub with spacers? Then I may need to space out the rear caliper mount to suit?

Any tips on 100mm bb's?

Been working on a solution for the odd hard to get 12x165mm hub by spacing out the back end to work with a 150mm hub. Pretty straight forward .

In the meantime I managed to find a company in Spain that carries new 12x165 hubs. So if there are any Tomac or SGS riders looking for a new hub Google MSC bikes. They have loads of odd sized hubs available. No idea on quality yet....

Well the 12x165mm hub showed up from Spain... And the 12mm axle won't fit through without being smacked home with a lump hammer. I think it has been incorrectly machined. Hub looks okay 50 points of engagement

I have 4 options. Get my engineer to ream the hub or turn down the axle a few thou or try a new axle from a pit bike as MTB specific options are non existent. I may get a custom axle machined to suit hub. Trying the pit bike axle first as it's only £5.

Gamble on the pit bike axle paid off. Fits like it was made to measure. Now to press out the pivot bearings and get it all powder coated. Also got hold of an isis 100mm shell BB. Had to bring it in from the states though which was a bummer on fees etc.

Re:

Thread revival....
The frame is finally back from metal finish masters powder coaters. Went for something a bit different, a textured Matt black. Rear triangle is silver.
Looks well. Have an uplift booked for Sunday so it's time to cross my fingers I have all the parts and it all fits together and get it built.

Re:

Really love this

There's a good vintage downhill group on Facebook if you need any bits on something like this

Where is the uplift?

Uplift is at Antur Stiniog. Hasn't been too difficult to get bits for it. Main issue is the rear hub and BB being an obsolete standard.

Re:

Show stopping disasters that have cropped up in the last 24 hours...

The steerer on the set of domains I bought wasn't as long as the seller advertised so the original stem was less than half on and would have been super sketchy. So I had to get hold of a lower stack headset and and a short stack height DMR defy stem couriered over. It now fits perfect.

In other news.. The spokes for my wheels have got lost in the post so I thought it was game over for the uplift on Sunday. Local bike shop stepped up and will hand cut and thread the correct length spokes and build me the wheels for Friday. Legends.
