Vitus 979

Baa

Retro Newbie
Evening all, I am rebuilding an old vitus and puzzled by the large hole to accept the rear brake.
Does any on know if there is a special adapter need
thank you

I had a Vitus 979, it was fitted with a standard campagnolo rear caliper, if memory serves me right though, I think there was a strengthening alloy insert through the tube where the caliper slides through.

Are you sure this hasn't come out?

Using my technical wooden rule the diameter of the hole is 9mm which is straight through.

Good job you posted a photo! What you need is a type of rear caliper that is retained by an allen key nut, I haven't got one to hand to measure but they would be about 8mm diameter. The thread of the caliper slides through, the nut fastenens up behind and becomes concealed and flush with the frame when its tight.

The pic below is for a front caliper, much longer because of the thickness of the forks.
