Got a set of XTR M950 hubs the other day, Front is fine, the rear however was notchy when the axle was turned by hand.

Having stripped it down, i found the cones a little on the loose side and the bearing race & cone on the drive side quite pitted. The other side is marked but I think it will run on ok.

Now I'm thinking my options are:
1, find another rear hub (£££)
2, find a M950 rearhub and cone to replace the existing (i'm thinking this will be difficult)
or
3, find another freehub that is compatible with the hub shell and a cone that will fit the axle?

Anyone got any advise?

Someone suggested toothpaste to polish the races and new bearings would help, search in here for the right size...

Strangely the bearings are fine, not a mark on them. I'm guessing they had been replaced very recently. Also the grease that was in there was more like grip shift johnny snot! I think the race has gone too far to just be polished out as it is pitted.
