Just got hold of a 1990 Explosif on eBay. Not too far from me and a cheeky offer accepted.
Frame and forks looks in very good condition except for the colour. Parts don’t seem too good but I didn’t buy it for the parts.
I’ll have a good look at it over the weekend and stick some pictures up too but I’m hoping to try some splatter painting if I can.

 was it the blue one, with the misspelt title? was looking at that myself but didn't really need another project :)

Re:

Yes that’s the one. I didn’t need one either but it was too near not to try and get it. I thought it’d slipped under the radar but clearly not.

 well it didn't come up on Explosif searches so i also assumed it would go unnoticed by most.

Look forward to seeing pics and progress when you have it

Re:

I’ve had 45 minutes this morning stripping it down. Whoever did The paint made a very nice job of it. It’s been looked after as everything has been greased and came off without a fight (except the drive side bottom bracket). The parts aren’t really up to much except it has red ano x/lite brake bolts and some lightweight ITM bars.
I’ve also noticed that someone has remover the mounts in the rear dropouts.
Frame number seems to be 89 118 290 but it check that once the paints removed.

Looks good. "Watching" with interest 😶 when you file the remnants of the mounts could the dropout/stay joint be be smoothed out?

I’ve been accumulating the parts for this and doing bits and bobs. I’ve filed Down the rough dropouts, built up the wheels and cleaned up the frame number. Its going to get it powder coated when I get chance to drop it off.

Slight change of plan. I’ve had the frame stripped and I’m painting it myself now.
I’m m going to try spray.bike paint then some splatter and I’ve bought some of their Keirin metal flake laquer to finish it.

Interesting project, I'm at a similar point where I was going to send for powder coat but am now considering DIY, will keep an eye on this to see how it goes.

Aye. Plenty of folks doin this I'd imagine now, probably, in part, due to the amount of YouTubers doing so over the last year. I think it's great. I've been watching old shovel videos. Really got into that when I was up at 4am with tiny baby awake every hour or so... He's responsible for me getting back into retro bikes, filling my shed with frames I'll never get around to restoring and me spending heaps of cash I don't have on weird bike parts I don't need!
Anyway, I've gone off on a tangent...
Lad at work is doing a really cool project with splatter and spray.bike on a nice carbon hardtail and rigid fork. He's done the fork and it looks amazing. I'll try get some pics.
I have a '92 Explosif that kind of needs a respray, so I'm considering it too...
