Where's my forest gone? To the Grouse...that's where....

Politicians being interested in popularity is a symptom of democracy.

Unfortunately dictatorships and monarchies are generally worse.

Those professional bodies and campaigners that should be helping quite often fall into ideology, where any disagreement is unacceptable and wrong.

It's like a conspiracy...
But ultimately it's just
self interest and incompetence.

Sadly wildflower meadow hay is almost worthless here because its too broadleaved and there's plenty of it.
Lucky my sheep eat it.
The crux all of of humans endeavors and there failure is greed, by which one person is hoisted as a great success whilst those unwritten are sacrificed on the alter of personal gain.

Any attempt to provide for the greater good has to be viewed through the tainted lens of greed, as whilst it may appear on the surface to better the species, it is often at the gain of few and the sufferance of many.

Mr Churchill "Democracy is the worst possible form of government, apart from all the other forms which have been tried from time to time"

but then Mr Marx points out that true communism has never been achieved, a stateless, wholly classless society has never been seen, and as such, failure of communism has not been proven in practice.

so yer, society, no matter the form is doomed to failure and to repeat the failure until the sun finally sets on the human species and the trees get to grow again, without our "help"

what a happy thought for the day, lets get back to trees and why we aren't going to be replanting the hills and valleys anytime soon. :)

The very failure of all attempts to achieve communism in practice is in itself the failure of communism. 😉

There is self interest in cooperation though, so not all is lost...

This has become a most interesting thread.
Does interest in bicycles generate such philosophical bent, or is it the other way around? 🤔

The bicycle appeals to the thinker.
It's a brilliant and sustained triumph of human ingenuity in a fusion of many fields.
And that's why we're here😍
Surely we all know the bicycle is an incredible thing. In the Sunday Times poll (for new year edition y2k) of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, the bike polled 30% of the vote - streets ahead of anything else.

What else would you include, in all history?

I'm not sure Antibiotics count as an invention - more of a discovery, although Vaccination could get in there? (or 5G😉)

I'm putting Plywood up on stage.
