What to do with this 1992 Dave Quinn?

Dirt Disciple
I'd like to get this 1992 Dave Quinn 653 up and running as a fast commuter, in the style of an MBUK feature entitled "Roadie Chasing" from around the same era. As you can see, it's been spoiled by a nasty 1999 RST fork, and I'm ashamed to say I binned the 1" threaded straight-blade 653 original.

Any advice on how to turn this into a period-correct road conversion? 1" Pace RC30s or Project IIs anyone?

I've still got the entire 1993 XT groupset - all transmission is still silky-smooth, and I'm still on the original hub bearings with the grease-port seals (much better than the newer Hugis on my other bike).

More modern touches that I hope won't ruin it too much are the LX V-brakes, some skinny Nimbus tyres, and I'd like to stick with the Body Geometry saddle for the sake of my balls...
