What are the difference betwen Mavic rims?

So, probably a bit of a newbie question haha

but what are the difference between 2, 3 and 5 series Mavic rims? I know the last two numbers are the width, so 221, 321, 521 are all 21mm wide but what is the first number for? Im presuming it is quality, if so is the lower better or the higher number better?

2 & 5 the same,
1 & 3 the same.

1 cheaper than 2,
3 cheaper than 5.

1 & 2 earlier models of 3 & 5
230, 231, 217
117 became 317 etc.

replaced by 517 (evolution of 217), which then became the 717

last part was not always the width.

Edit, I'll clarify that.

231 and 261
1 was the model level, 23 & 26 was the width,
230 so here a model 0 was added as a cheaper flimsier but lighter version of 230.

Then along came SUP and the 217, 117 & 121, switching the last part to width and the first to a sort of model, 2 being better than 1, oddly though the 121 had part of 217, (double eyelet thing) but not as good as 117 construction, I think.

There are catalogues around, look for 1993-1995 era.
