Hi,

I have a 9 speed set up on my Roberts with STI levers.

I want to fit downtube shifters as I think it would suit the bike better with aero levers as well.

Unfortunately Dura ace Downtube Shifters are pricy and hard to come by. So in the meantime....

I have some 7 speed Shimano 105 (SL1055) in the spares box, my question is, I know in friction mode they will work but can I use them in SIS mode, IE just to get gears 1-7.

Or are the pull lengths different ?

Different shift lengths the 9s is much closer spacing, would be better off getting a cheap 7s cassette and putting a spacer behind it.

The cassette on the bike is new ☹️

I was hoping for a makeshift set up until I can afford £70 for dura-ace ones.

I Guess I'll just man up and go on friction mode 😀 until I get the cash.

Thanks for the info 👍

You could get 8 speed levers and reclamp the cable hubbub style (google it if you don't know) and get 8 of the 9 gears
