I was in an antique shop today in my hometown of Hull whilst visiting the folks.
Had a nice Richmond Filet brazed 531 tandem and some older bog std ladies bikes and a butchers bike.
BUT, he reckoned he had this rare Bianchi one of only 5 made from 1965 and he was asking £85,000 for it..yup that's right 85K!!
I was thinking okay, whatever, asked if he had it advertised, he said a bike like that didn't need anything other than word of mouth..obviously not working if he still had it
As he stated you couldn't make bike frames from Stainless steel (as he'd being a motorbike frame builder for xx years) I thought he was full of carp.
Any idea what this rare beast might be or was he taking bollocks?

My hometown too : ). Which shop was it?

What would Jim Royle say ..... £85000 my ars3 lol

No, you cant make bicycle frames out of stainless steel.

No.

This bike is clearly a fake.

Did a bianchi sponsored rider win anything of note in 1965? Giro/tdf/worlds? There have been a few rare specials from various manufacturers over the years.

But

Unless it's been signed by every bianchi sponsored rider since the company was founded, and includes pantanis ashes, no chance it's worth 85 grand!

I think bollocks, but I'm intrigued... any pics?
Nah, as I said, he was giving it the 'word of mouth will sell it', frankly I thought he was just trying to spin some sort of yarn
think he said a Sprint 550 or 500 but could be some other bollocks he was rambling about..

He started saying X person's brazing was crap and he asked me were the nearest frame builder around Hull was. I said I wasn't sure as I had left Hull in my late teens, maybe Barton. He said he had a Magnum Bonum and when I said I had passed on a lovely Experto Crede cos it was too small but had a fantastic paint job by Argos cycles he'd never heard of them
I said there were some good framebuilders in the US doing really nice intricate lugwork and some lovely SS frames, he was you can't make SS frames, they're no good. I said well if people want them and the market is sustainable & people pay the price who's to dictate what people spend their hard earned on..No no sez he, they're forcing crap onto them.

It was at that point I was 99.9% sure he was full of it so I thought I'm not going to make the situation embaressing and as I'm not that bothered about Bianchi's (they're nice but don't do it for me tbh) and I was going to an exhibit with mater.
I might make him an offer and knock him down to £70k
