Hi I'm Paul,
A cycling friend put me onto this site. Earlier this year whilst living in France I picked up a used 80's racer. It's got lots of nice old Simplex bits on.
I don't really want the bike so stripping it down to sell the parts. Wondering if I can sell through this site or do all the auctions go through ebay?

warm greetings to everyone.

im ulnuk, 60 years old, from the philippines. i learned and started biking when i was ten or so on a rented small bikes until the time that i entered college. a friend sold me a frame and slowly built it, that was in 1978. aftet college i put that bike aside until i became obese and only a few years back i started again biking and with a 135kgs weight, i found a gt mtb online replaced it with a sc chameleon and finally settled with a fixie and started to lose some weight. recently, i bought a frame from a junk picker which i learned from google app that it is a carllton with crespera lugs but no wrap on its seat stay. i made a simple fixie built with diamond back fork and bridgestone road man drop bar and 700c wheel set and made some good rides on it.

i am repainting it as of the moment and found out on its left dropout the numbers 64391 this is one of the reasons that i came here hoping i'll be able to identify what kind of carlton i have and try to reincarnate it with original components as far as i may. attached are some pics on the matter. thanks for accepting me and thank you all Sirs/Madames, wishing you all the best.

Found this forum trying to find out about old steel Geoff Roberts frames.

I am a cyclist, and I think the retro kit - particularly the old lugged frames are things of beauty, but I neither have the time or money to do the vintage stuff any justice!

I like the modern things like thru axles, disc brakes and tubeless for the longer endurance gravel sessions (probably shouldnt mention such blasphemy in here )

Yo Homies, I'm Logan in Colorado, USA. Lickskillet is a one mile long really steep dirt road climb near where I live. It's a lane of pain. I've been checking this place out for many a year now, and I've really enjoyed it. I've just found this thread as I'm enjoying a tasty beer, a lemon PopTart and nugs so I thought no time like the present. My retro ride is a 1986 Appel lugged steel. I can't remember the name of the tubing at the moment. It's in Reader's road bikes somewhere. I put 11spd Shimano Ultegra on it so it's pretty nice. I end up riding it a lot. I like gravel and mountain and fat bikes too, and I'm lucky to have one of each. There are lots of cool retrobikes, road and mtn, where I live. Somebody was recently asking $9,999 for a lightly used Nobilette touring bike handmade in Colorado. Not so retro, but it was steel. After reading the posts, sometimes I feel like I coulda made a solid Englishman. I just appreciate the whole British vibe and approach to things. Thanks for sharing all the bikes!

Hi All. Happy 2022!

I'm Woking, Surrey based and quite often ride Box Hill and the Surrey Downs. I'm actually wedded to early '90s steel road bikes ('94 Pinarello Treviso, '93 Eddy Merckx Strada, 1990 Bob Griffin 531 - I love 'em), but I have an old Holdsworth I purchased secondhand and refurbished it.

As a youngster, my grandad used to bring me a "new" bike every six months. He used to get old broken bikes from the local tip and would build a decent runner out of these. I has loads of these.

My first new bought bike was a 5-spd, yellow, Sun Snipe (mid-70s), £52 from Russells Bike Shop, York. My second (1980) was a Carlton Pro-Am 12 (£199, again Russells Bike Shop, York). The bike's long gone, but I still have the frame for my current fixie.

I purchased my Pinarello in '94, the day the Tour de France came to the UK. That stage day was Dover to Brighton. I ordered the Pinarello then went down to see the stage run through Sussex. Since the Pinarello, I've since bought new frames, old frames, and built the bikes myself. Love 'em! I get as much joy building them as I do riding them. I bought Holdsworth a few years back as someone's shed find and spent quite a bit time reassembling.

My new challenge is a Bernard Carre frame I've just picked up. Old standards and French threading may be a challenge!

Hiya fellow retro bike lovers

I'm Andy from West London. I have a passion for bikes and have a few retro bikes I've built up or refurbished over the past couple of years. I've been into bikes for a number of years now, but the retro bug really bit hard about 3 years ago when I got my first retro bike, an 84 Gitane which I resprayed and rebuilt into what it is today. I've since done a few more, including a second Gitane built up as a neo-retro build with modern 11sp 105 and carbon parts inc a Time Aero Sprint fork, a Dancelli built for my partner (again as a neo-retro build). I've also done two "customer builds" a custom built Concorde by Ciocc and a Pinarello Veneto. I also got my hands on a near original Raleigh Record Sprint which I restored and that found its way winging it's way to the continent to a new owner in Lithuania.

I've since got myself two '82 Peugeot PH12 which need a full resto, so these will be my project bikes over the nwext few months. They both require fresh paint and polishing of parts. I'll likely try find them new homes once finished.

Anyway, I'll do a separate post on the readers bikes section listing all the bikes I've built and done over the years and plans for future bikes.
