Specialized Rockhopper as daily commuter

Hi new to the forum as well as Retro bikes, I found what I’m guessing is a 97-98 Rockhopper size 18” for $125 CDN, that I was hoping to use as a 1-2 times a week commuter bike. I have two concerns before buying 1 - I’m 5’10-5’11 unsure if this bike is big enough? 2 - it appears the bike specialized bike frames had become a bit more aggressive in the later 90s compared to the early 90s. My commute would be 10km each way. If I do go ahead I’d be looking to change the gearing to 1x10, as well as brooks saddle, and do a custom paint with bike.spray. Also where I’m located these 90s MTB don’t come up for sale that often. Similar to one in below photo

Re:

A good choice for a commuter and, if the condition is anywhere near as good as the one in the photo, a good deal for $125 CDN. As for sizing: 18" should be about right but trying for size is always a good idea - the reach is just as important as the seat tube height.

If the paint is tatty, spraying is an option but powder coating is tougher.

Tks! Ideally an earlier 90s would been my choice as more of commuter frame design, but i think it’ll be a good fit
