Should I be worried about a crack in a moby post?

Bought a moby post of eBay a while ago and finally got around to citing it today, but when I took it apart to fit the saddle, I noticed a crack running from the top of the post to the hole where the clevis pin fits. On closer inspection it has not gone through to the insert within the hop of the post that I assume is to strength the mounting points.

All in all I'm a bit gutted as had been after one for a while and had finally found one.

As I've been slack, I think the paypal recovery route is long gone, but aside from the crack, it looks good so is it safe to use as is?

If pics are required, I'll try to get some up later.

What will be worse, the pain or the embarrassment of having to explain to the beautiful casualty triage nurse how you managed to get a length of anodised metal jammed up your jacksie?

Your X-rays will adorn the staff rooms in the hospital and doubtlessly feature heavily on fialblog.

Hmmmmm.... I'm not sure I'd ride it. It could be fine and last for years, or it could go tomorrow and tear you a new a**hole...

Cheers for the advice, I thought as much, but hoped for different.

Can anyone recommend a strong back 27.2 seat post, as I fear a moby is now not the way forward sadly.

In my youth I ran a turquoise moby with exactly the same sort of crack for over a year on my 'trials' hans ray inspired zaskar, I rode it pretty hard aswel with no probs - its a shame the same couldn't be said for the x-lite post I put on after lasted a week until the ti bolt snapped clean in half! The crack in my moby never got any worse in that time thank god and if you think about where the crack is, there isn't really much chance of the post shearing off from there so I recon your safe. I'd go for it and if it starts making dodgy noises then ditch the beast!

Cheers, I have been having a think about it and have switched the post around so that the crack is on the front, and in my head, this means that the load is not being put on it, as when I'm in the saddle, the weight will be pushing down. It is really for a garage queen at the moment, so maybe I will leave it in for now, until I can find a suitable replacement.

cracked aluminum has a way of harming you when it breaks, more so than steel, probably due to the unpredictability...snap! Don't do it, dude.

I might have a cheap 27.2 lying about, that you are welcome to for free, so long as you take care of the postage.

Cracked + Aluminum + Load Bearing + sensitive body parts = Easy math.

Do the right thing, give up on the fashion/safety risk and get a good post. Moby's break - especially when they're already broken.

Aluminum breaks suddenly, too, and sharp, crystalline spikes - think about it - aiming at your butt n' berries.
