Shocking shocks stroke length question no smut lol

Ok so for the Tomac frame Ive worked out I need eye 2 eye 200mm

Have been advised the stroke length should be 51 mm

Ive seen a nice shock on ebay with a stroke length of 57mm

what does the stroke length do?. Does it matter as long as its 200mm eye to eye.

Im totally confused her and out of my depth..with no armbands as usual.

Please explain simply ^^ as I probably still wont understand.

stroke length affects the actual travel I think...... you dont want your rear wheel buzzing your seat tube after all

That explains things a bit; I didn't know there were two, or more, stroke lengths for a 200mm length.
On my Santa Cruz, the swingarm brace touches the seat tube when the shock's deflated, despit, apparently, being the right length. A too long stroke could explain it.
