SHIMANO LX REAR MECH HACK

Sali

Dirt Disciple
Assignment: Shortening the derailleur cage
Equipment : Drill, metal saw, file, inner plate of cage with required length
Time : 1 hour
Prediction : stiffness is great, less protection of the lower pulley but it will be easier to clean
Verdict : not tested yet, but it looks good :D

So, somebody else who thinks it's getting desperate out there for short cage mechs?

If you put the off cut back over the hole, simply overlap the plate, use a longer bolt it may be better; obviously
it could get elaborate with beveled edges, a half-lap join, 1970s drillium art etc.

Thank You for idea. I'll try to get a wide steel washer.

Why would you need to shorten the cage?
Ask Shimano ;) .Was gonna say 'it was their idea' but I'm sure I'll be corrected!

Shimano techdoc SI-8AA0B clearly mentions short cage mechs increase virility.

I can see how the increased rigidity would be advantageous, but I'd rather keep the length to be honest.

Re:

I've had a look at my setup and,in all honesty,I don't see any way to get my jockeys closer together! :?
Not only that, ones 10t,the other is 11t.
