Ritchey frame SOLD

Re: Rare Ritchey frame

I did that... and that led me to believe that it was a frame designed by Tom Ritchey and built by the Italians.

Am I wrong in this assumption? Is this a counterfeit of Ritcheys work?

Oh, and to really fan the flames... were the Plexus's welded up in Taiwan?

Re: Rare Ritchey frame

I keep on being dragged back to this as it so gorgeous mate and im very surprised it hasn't got sold on it yet!

How tall are you then if its to big for you.I haven't yet built a bike that's a little to big for me but I could very well imagine its an easy thing to do when it's a rare frame and you just crack on with it hoping that it might just do.

So nice mate.

The design is different. Curved stays and ritchey dropouts do not a plexus make. There was a design purpose that this frame doesn't meet

Counterfeit is your word, but once the wrong decals were applied and the "same frame" claim made..

It's a nice bike, probably rides wonderfully! The next owner will most likely love it.

On the subject of where a plexus was made, the brazing happened at the skyline shop, the tig was a mix of skyline and R.O.C depending on how important the frame was(as was the tig for the rest of the bikes) so a good majority of them came from right down the street from here, until we get to the lowest end frames

This bike has some elements that will make for a longer lived frame than a real ritchey plexus

Re: Rare Ritchey frame

What was the design purpose of the Plexus Hollister? Also you mention longevity of the Plexus. Is it because of the lack of the canti bridge?

I'm through the jousting now and keen to learn as much as I can about both these wonderful frames! :D :D

It's not the same frame, the details are wrong

Plexus had fast back stays and no cs bridge as part of TR's design

It is a good looking bike though

Ritchey did 3 versions of the Plexus, these were used latterly by the teams, forward facing seat clamp slot etc, the original had the rear slot and split stays, but Tom wasn't happy with the weights using Tange tubing or the strength (Plexus were a bit fragile for World cup races) and needed the special Italiano steel, which he couldn't get, hence the licensing agreement with FRM to obtain the tubesets. They were hand made in Italy and supplied back to Ritchey, in return for FRM being able to use the design for home sales.

There was a ss bridge but it wasn't curved. There was no cs bridge and the stays were very thin to allow as much flex as possible (why 8 of 10 failed at the same spot ). Remember the gp honda bikes f the same era? It was a purpose built frame, as long as you don't expect it to last forever, it's a great riding bike

For casual use they last a long time, and feel great
