Retro Newbie
Hoping someone could help identify the year of this bike? I have a chance of getting it, seems like its mostly original with nice camp rear derailleur, and nice touches like a cut away bb. I have tried to find it in the catalogues to no avail. Looks similar to the 1975 model with some slight colour scheme differences.

Nice :) shot in seat stays, chrome, fully sloping fork crown with chrome top and the yellow not black head tube. Frame number should date it but in Carlton clothing would be a mk V I think which is 1974 ish

In the 1974 Raleigh USA catalogue it was offered as a complete bike using the Professional Mk 1V frame decked out with Campagnolo Super Record components, possibly only as frame for the UK market..?

In the 1975 Raleigh US catalogue the bike shown is one of the first to be built by the Specialist Bicycle Development Unit SBDU at Ilkeston and quite possibly SB1. So it looks like the Raleigh Team Professional Model DL185 changed from using the Professional Mk 1V frame as used for the 74 model to SBDU built frames for 75.

To confuse things further Raleigh used exactly the same photo from the 75 catalogue for the 76 catalogue, retouching the head tube black...

Thanks for the info guys, now just need to get the guy to part with it. He seemed keen on keeping it and said he thought it may actually of been one of the team issue bikes back in the day. thanks again

The Raleigh decal on the seat tube and the Team on the top tube appear to have faded over time and should be yellow. The bike has the very early decals which have a larger font and thicker black line running through the middle of the letters and no black outline. The font is exactly the same for the top, down and seat tubes and stand 21.5 mm high. This larger style font was used on the early Raleigh Team Livery along with the yellow headtube appearing on Raleigh Professional, Record and early SBDU frames. You have a very nice early and quite rare Raleigh Professional Mk 1V in original paint..👌

The Team used Weinmann brakes which the bike appears to have and they should have a date stamp on the back of the calipers..?
