For really stubborn headset cups I use a 1/2” extension bar upside down. You can get a decent whack on the end that usually attaches to the socket.

I’m guessing the improvised tool came out the bottom straight in to the hand that was waiting to catch the cup? Done it myself.

Yep exactly right, I always learn either expensive mistakes or lumps of flesh XD

I have that headset cup tool too! Mine hasn't hurt me though.
