Hi all
I'm Building a 1996/97 X1. Just fitted an XT 737 chainset employing the 107 mm BB as per Shimano spec. My concern is the chain will be running very close to the pivot point when in the granny. Not much clearance at all. is this just how they were or do I need a longer spindle- or a spacer? just wondering what size BB was used as standard.
..does anyone know?

Re:

I’m just running the recommended axle for my 737’s on the X1 and has no problems

The what size is the grannny ring 26t or bigger

I’ll go and check mine

Cheers Spud,
Granny is standard 22t
Pics here to show what I mean, though there looks more clearance in the pics than in the flesh.
Cheeky pic of general progress included :D

well I've been and looked and mine appears to be darn near the same as yours above

the light was so shitty I couldn't get a decent pic

I have to ask - are you really building a bike on a white carpet? if not that's one well looked after cupboard in your workshop

Thanks for checking, Spud. Its reassuring to know, should the chain slip off the granny ring, that pivot point carnage is completely normal.

To answer your question- I only ever build my bikes on the finest pure white shag pile carpet.. it's retro innit
