OH MY GOD!! What is it!?!

Hi all, I took a punt on this GT today and I’m going around in circles trying to work out what it is and I’m hoping someone here may have. A better answer (ignore the parts on it).

Based on the research I’ve done on these fine, fine pages I know the following:

It’s a bike
It’s a GT
Probably ‘98
No rear brake cable noodle on the seat post
It’s a 7005 frame
It has some remnants of a red and yellow decal on it
Serial number is S8HK1936

This, along with the 1998 GT catalogue makes me think it’s a Backwoods.

However, the integrated seat collar doesn’t look very Backwoods’y.

Can anyone here say with any ‘conviction’ what it is and how they’ve come to that conclusion so I can go to sleep tonight?

During the timeframe that this bike would have been built, GT used essentially the same frame for all of their 7005 aluminum hardtails. The different models referred to component groups and build kits on that frame. Also it is my understanding that the 7005 aluminum hardtails were painted. The Zaskar could be ball burnished, bare aluminum but the other models, even the grey/silver bikes, were painted.

Unfortunately I have no idea as I've not seen that before....very neat!

Yeah it’s very neat, but also annoying as it doesn’t appear in the catalogue other than on an Avalanche LE. Which I don’t think it is
