Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed ! ( attributed to Lavoisier the french scientist  )

Inspired by this

I have done my version - no welding but fixed on a nice oak plate !

the toilet roll holder "columbus SL / Dura Ace"

Nice frame most probably in columbus SL but beyond salvation
Dura Ace quick release
High Flanged Newstar hub but rather rare as chromed

A bit tricky to have two parts which go on each side of the roll, but after cutting the hub body in two parts, and rethreading the axle cut also in two parts, managed that

without accessory !

with accessory ( to cut the paper  )

I do like that!

Definitely not a crappy idea.

Ho ho, I could be on a roll here!

Jokes like this send a post down the pan .

Does it help when pedalling or do you have to stand up and push

That looks great! When I saw the first pics with the empty mech hanger, the first thing I though of would be to hang a pen on a chain from it, so that you could doodle/take notes/write letters/etc on the roll as you were doing "other business"
