Retro Newbie
I was at the local auction market today, just nosing around when i noticed a Road Race Bike. My main interest was finding a smaller frame than my numbnuts purchase of a Raleigh Eclipse a few weeks ago ( I bought a bike without measuring the frame size and now i know that a 25" frame is WAY too big for me! lol ) so a Raleigh frame i was a searchin for. I had set my heart on a Raleigh Reynolds 531 from the 80s to build a Raleigh Record Sprint (yes, i know the Sprint was a 501, but i wanted to build a Sprint the way i thought it should have been built as i had one when i was 12 back in 1980).
I've made a long story long...lucky there isnt a character limit!
So, back to the point, i noticed this old, tatty, tourquoise bike that looked just right from a distance. Got closer and it looked kind of ok and then i noticed that the frame was stamped near the derailleur with the name "Bianchi"! There are no decals to help me out...but i dont really mind what it is to be honest, although it would be nice.
Anyhow, i ended up paying £20 for it and the idea is to spend a little on it ( nice set of wheels, replace a few bits and have the frame media blasted and give it a nice paint job and airbrush in the graphics)
So, i guess this is the thread that is going to follow my build.
For the moment i've replaced the steel wheels with the alloys off the eclipse and also the cleaner brakes off the eclipse.
I'm thinking of going Campag all through. However it goes it will all be period...thats the plan anyway
