I used this tip yesterday setting the stem on my Merckx.

Fantastic!
I used two 3 foot lengths of wooden dowel I had lying around, so no risk of damage to paint work etc. While the other methods work to a greater or lesser degree (I know 'cos I've been using them for years) this is so simple and accurate.
