Talking of relatively unknown manufacturers, could be worse. I was browsing a Decathlon sports catalogue and came across this group set on one of the bikes ( I kid you not, this is genuine). I suspect that this is not going to become a retro classic...
Microshift has been around for a while both on and off road.
No experience with it myself other than looking at their 9 speed thumb shifters that look like direct copies of the old XT. I have heard more good stories than bad regarding their road groupset, its supposedly similar to 105 on quality, though lighter and around 1/3 the price. Durability seems on a par with the other companies so as long as your not bothered by the brand name snobs it could be a a good buy. I imagine its not as nice looking as we retro heads would like though the components I have seen were highly polished and looked nice enough.
