The UK's largest gathering of classic pre-1995 mountain bikes, ‘icon•o•classic’, is taking place at the historic market place in Warwick on September 14th 2014.

icon•o•classic will provide a showcase for these bikes – both to the general public, and for all the exhibitors and other like-minded enthusiasts.  We’re sure that like us you will relish the opportunity to show your bikes, and to be able to see so many others all at the same time and in the same location.

All up to date details, including registration information can be found at www.iconoclassic.org as well as in the dedicated section on Retrobike – both of which will be regularly updated.

The aim for icon•o•classic is to showcase at least 200 pre-1995 mountain bikes, in one location, at the same time.  Simultaneously 100 different Team jerseys and strips will be displayed around the town centre, to further add to the atmosphere and augment the setting of the bikes.

We would like a broad range of classic mountain bikes on show.  One aim for icon•o•classic is to get bikes that members of the public can relate to – possibly bikes the same as they might have owned themselves back in the day. The only requirements are that the bikes are from 1995 or earlier, and that they are presentable for what will in effect be a ‘show n’ shine’ event.

Further to this, there will be a unanimous ‘Best in Show’ competition with the exhibitors and general public encouraged to vote on the day for their favourite bike.

The show will be managed through a pre-registration process - if you would like to come along please register your interest here.

Several pubs and cafes open onto the square and the surrounding streets, the town mainly consists of quality independent shops, and the atmosphere is always very relaxed – especially when the sun’s out!

It is hoped that exhibitors will arrange group travel from their respective regions, pooling cars and vans, which in turn will allow an even greater number of bikes to be brought along.

The show will be a free entry event for both exhibitors and visitors alike.

We have agreed with the council for some streets to be closed for the event, and for one of the large town centre car parks to be reserved exclusively for our use.  The car park selected will be free of charge for the show, and is less than 2 minutes walk [20 seconds riding!] from the Market Square, so that logistics are as simple as possible for set up / take down.

The event will be open air, and exhibitors must bring their own bike stands or make suitable provision for such.

icon•o•classic has been organised in consultation with and to the approval of Warwick District Council. Further to this, it has now been registered on the District Council official Events Guide, and will be marketed by the council on line, through the tourist information centres, by booklets in local shops and businesses, and through a large postal campaign.

The aim is to make icon•o•classic the biggest such event in the UK – if not the world!

icon•o•classic will take place on a Sunday, if you would like to make a weekend of it there are many great things to see and do in the local area – within both the town of Warwick itself and easy travel distance by bike / car.

The area around Warwick is very popular with tourists, and as such there are many b&bs, hotels, and campsites both in Warwick and in the immediate surrounding towns.  We will provide a list of possible accommodation options shortly, and would encourage early booking!

Cheers

Tom & John
