When Charlie Kelly and Gary Fisher joined the English 'Rough Stuff Fellowship' they found an organisation that had used everyday bikes for off-road cycling since 1955. Disappointingly, the RSF had little interest in technical matters.

However, Charlie and Gary were right in looking to England for ideas because Geoff Apps had been developing his own, English, off-road bicycles since 1965. Geoff read about the American bikes in 1981 and contacted Gary and Charlie etc. Ideas were exchanged and Geoff's machines had put England firmly on the 'mountain biking map'.

The rest,is history.

Though a history that's seldom told.

Kendrick Apps and I often chat about his uncle and what could have and should have been. Geoff is true pioneer and innovator of the off-road cycle. He should totally be included the hall of fame.
