Frame Paint Restoration

Hi gang,

A question for those of you that know about paint/painting.

I doing a sort of restomod on a 1998 Specialized FSR Pro.

The paint is in decent condition, so I dont want to go down costly/time consuming respray/new decals path. I'm not after a show piece and it will be ridden.

However, there are a few marks/chips and rubs here and there. I can easily colour match to clean them up, but overall its lost is luster. So if I wanted to get a little 'shine' back...

Option 1 - What if I was to do the touchup and topcoat with a gloss clear?

Option 2 - Cut and polish.

Option 3 - Leave it alone!

Any thought on how best to get some luster back, after touchups?

Going over it with T-cut and then a quality car polish/wax can do wonders.

Just watch out for those old stickers when using the T-cut

And make double sure you’ve left the touch up work plenty of time to really dry hard before cutting/waxing..

T cut can be a bit aggressive. You could try Meguiars Ultimate compound - a little less aggressive and leaves a finer finish.

1. Clean thoroughly.
2. fill chips and scratches in a number of layers
3. Wet Sand the 'fills' flat
4. meguiars ultimate compound everything
5. protect with a decent wax

Thet's the basic approach, you can add MANY more steps depending on how far you want to go...

Well if you wanna go pro....

Farécla G3 Liquid Compound then G10 finishing compound.... ;)
