NeilM Retrobike Rider Feedback View Aug 8, 2015 #1 Simple question: can I fit and 8 speed freewheel on a 126mm hub?
Midlife Retro Wizard Aug 8, 2015 #2 Not sure you can on 126mm? There's a pic on here of an ALAN with a 7 speed block and that's pretty tight but doable. I'm trying to think if anyone did an 8 speed block with a very narrow chain, Suntour Ultra was only 7 and I think Zenith 8's used normal spacing. "Spring" or re set the frame? Shaun

Midlife Retro Wizard Aug 8, 2015 #4 Funny, just typed and Retrobike disappeared! This was the thread I was thinking about viewtopic.php?f=12&t=281941 Rear 501 axles do appear on the bay from time to time but are stupidly expensive Shaun

M mattsccm Senior Retro Guru Aug 9, 2015 #6 Must admit that in the good old days I just slung an 8 speed block on. I don't think I was aware that things shouldn't work like that. It would have been an Sachs block on Campag hubs that were built for 6 speed in 1983. Any help?

M mattsccm Senior Retro Guru Aug 9, 2015 #7 Got an unwanted 28 hole Mavic hub. How do I know if its 500 or 501? Check across the locks nuts so to speak?
