Derek Bailey Rocky Mountain

I was lucky find a Derek Bailey Rocky Mountain in rural Quebec, Canada this week and I figured I’d share. Here are a couple teasers as found. Couple of nice bits but generally a hodgepodge of modern and inexpensive replacements making it a basic get-around-town bike.

The fellow was surprised that I’d drive 1.5h for it and even more surprised to learn that people would go to the time and effort to find old parts after asking my plans. I told him it was a special one and he was thrilled to pass it along after it had been sitting unused for some time. I was hoping the fork was original but was unsure at the time of purchase. Excitingly, it is. Another note: A friend told to check under the black paint as he mentioned red and white was a typical RM colour scheme and sure enough, brilliant shiny white Imron is beginning to surface. More to come 😎

Anny news?
Yes, I kind of forgot about the little project that I did with this bike. Nothing major but took it down to frame and fork and repainted the head tube and fork. I’d tried a bit of an eco-based paint stripper on an inconspicuous area to find that it worked well, only to find that that one area was the only area not sanded down in preparation to be painted black. Unfortunately the original white Imron section of paint was lost but it led me to doing a three coat rattle can repaint which turned out great.

With another project already in cue, I felt that the frameset would be better off being passed along to someone that might have better means to build it up and enjoy it. It’s since left my possession and is a little further west now, closer to where it came from 😎

That is lovely. Great choice on the paint job😍

Any photos of it built up?

Thanks. It was pretty fun to see it all shiny again. Another forum post led me to trying a bit of pledge furniture spray polish on the red section to try and rejuvenate the sheen and it worked pretty good as well.

Not too sure if it’s been built up as of yet. It’s now in Alberta with a RM enthusiast. Wouldn’t mind finding another one in my size one day 😂
