Looking for a really nice mint/low miles or nos XT 7 speed cassette, 12-28 or 13-30 needed to finish off a lovely project.
Cheers👍

GREAT looking bikes. I especially like the Stumpjumper. I am partial to Specialized because my #2 is an 87 Stumpjumper.

My #1 is a 88 Rockhopper. I ride with a “Shimano CN-HG71 6/7/8-Speed Chain” and “Shimano CS-HG41 Cassette - 7 Speed, 11-28t” – but I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW if there is a better 7-speed configuration!

FAVOR: Does the “Deore XT HG90 7Speed Cassette” shift better that the “Shimano CS-HG41 Cassette”?

By "model", do you mean "Group"?

There is a Group "E" (7-speed, included in the initial Hyperglide release) that is 12/14/16/18/21/24/28; it is at least (I am not sure of the full availability) available in CS-HG90, CS-HG70, and CS-HG50.

There is a Group "ac" (7-speed, obviously released after Shimano moved away from single capital letter convention) that is 11/13/15/18/21/24/28; it is at least (I am not sure of the full availability) available in CS-HG70, CS-HG50, and CS-HG30. Though I am not certain, I do not believe it is available in CS-HG90.

ME: I am late to the world of vintage bicycles. Except for being a bicycle commuter that prefers vintage bicycles (and I have worn out several cassettes) --- much of what I know about cassettes comes from websites such as this one, and more recently, reviewing Shimano product documents (I found a different website that publishes many old Shimano docs). Unfortunately, I have no practical experience from the days when HG90s ruled. That's why I seek guidance from sites like this one.

FAVOR: Why exactly is HG90 better than HG70, HG50, HG30, etc.? Is it more than just a topical finish? Do they shift smoother? Do they wear better?
