Claud Butler vantage

So....

The wife wanted a bike so she could start getting out with me and the kids, I managed to persuade her that retro is where it’s at and I would source her a bike and sort it for her.
This came up locally, a Claud Butler Vantage, I remember them from back in the day and one of my friends had one in a school, compared to the bikes we all had it was epic!

So, for the princely sum of £20 I picked it up and on first glances - it’s been truly neglected .
Headset, stem, seatpost all seized. Frame itself is in good condition and came with an amberwall dart and a psycho 2.
Stripped it all down last night which took way longer than I expected and will start the rebuild today - pics will be up later.

Cheers

CB's finest from around 1992/ 93

They were quite expensive because of the then novelty of big oversized aluminium frames.

Had some mates who used the frames to build jump bikes.

Re:

So bit of an update after today’s work....

Re sprayed the stem silver as it had rusted quite bad, not a great job but better than it was and it’s not a pristine bike by any stretch.
Re wired the brakes and fit Shimano DX red v brakes I had lying around and paired them up to some dia compe PC 12NA’s which are nice levers and the braking is really good now.
Removed the odd gs200/Altus A10 shifters and replaced with Sachs grip shift, again a real good improvement and nice positive action. The red and yellow tie in nicely with the red/yellow on the decals. Stuck a zoom handlebar on, just need some grips and a saddle for and the mrs should be good to go! Took the dart off the back and replaced it with a psycho copy to match the front.
Not the nicest build but I’m quite pleased with how it’s turning out and will end up costing me about £30 all said and done.

Love it, especially for £30 :D

As LGF says.. 92/93 vintage… the 7005 frames first appeared in the ’93 Catalogue but photographed with a newer style graphic/logo… this one has the graphic scheme that finished at the end of ’92..

So, I’m guessing this may have been one of the first CB aluminium frames to enter the factory before “Sales & Marketing” decided on a change… .

Thanks for the info! I had a look on google for more info on the bike and all the pics had different style decals, this explains why!
