Claud Butler frame number identification

That is the hole for a grease nipple. Hole should be threaded and nipple is replaceable. This confirms it is a Holdsworthy frame built prior to 1965.

Hello all,

Firstly, thank you for this excellent thread, lots of really interesting information.

I was hoping for some help with identifying a CB I picked up last year and am looking to do up as a summer project.

The frame number is 30170, so from other posts it looks like one from 1967, perhaps one of the later frames to be produced before the numbering system changed?

I'm having trouble picking out which frame it is from the '67 catalogue so any help or clues as to what to look for would be welcome.

It has GB maes brake levers, but I think everything else (other than perhaps a Huret front derailleur) has been changed.

The pictures I have are below. Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at it.

That, is a top of the 1967 range Claud Butler Torino, top to toe butted 531... it doesn’t come much better  (well not till the Super Torino appeared in 1970) these were sold as frame set only & deserve to be dripping in Campagnolo :D

Lucky me! Thank you so much for your help! I'm sure I'll come back with more questions as I plan the next steps on how to do it justice.

No problem.. it will be good to see a build thread when you get around to it... by the way, I've re-drawn the only example of a top tube name I've ever found for a Torino and had it reproduced by Steve at https://h-lloyd-cycles.myshopify.com/co ... aud-butler he hasnt added it to his catalouge yet but if you contacted him with a screen grab of this photo I'm sure he'd be happy to reproduce another set. (ps, its worth following up any e-mail you send with a phone call if you don't hear back from him within a week)

When I was "doing up" my own 1968 made to measure "Superized" Torino I found this "1971" Super Torino on Flickr with a similar Torino decal to Peachy's example plus the Super decal as seen with Super Mistral. I had enquired with Nick at H Lloyd's and could have used these decals but decided against it as the Super Torino was not a standard catalogue model until 1970.

Nice to see another one Doug, just need to persuade HLloyds to add it to their catalogue now ;)

Thanks for the inspiration and the heads up about the decal sticker all.
I'll be sure to upload the photos once I get started.
