Great job, key to good paint as you know is in the prep and wet and dry the base colour to remove any texture before lacquer. Lovely job and fantastic bikes, always loved the smooth welds on these.
Thank you very much for the positive reply @CrossFred1978 - I have been at this for ages now and cant wait to see the end of "painting" and all that goes with it, am just a hobbyist with all this painting stuff as its the first time I have tried it. Indeed prep is the key, environmental factors do come in a lot when applying the base coat and lacquer though, thanks again for the post.

I've never tried it myself, this makes me both hopeful (it's possbile) and very tentative (the outcome of yours looks super professional and I highly doubt I would achieve anything close to that). Thanks for the inspiration 🙏. Oh, and do you have any youtube links to see this process in action (ones you watched to learn etc)?

Hi @JoniSteiner thank you so much for the kind feedback, am sure you could achieve a good job if not better. I don't have any YouTube videos that I actually followed, a lot was down to trial an error, which takes time as mistakes happen and your back to the first step with rubbing down for ages and then primer, base coat, lacquer drying times.

I think the most important research I found was actually on "car restoration/painting forums" places which have a big community of people "painting" their cars in their garage or driveway, lots of tips in those forums for painting that apply to a bike frame also.

When I get a chance I will do a "review" post on what I did, obstacles I faced and all the materials etc I used, oh and things I could have done better.

On the fork side of things, another rub down with some more Etch Primmer before the final base coat then 2K lacquer, things go wrong and happen, am inexperienced in this, when they go wrong you know its going to be another few days of fixing it, professional painters or powder coaters get it right the first time around.

Some more parts I have accumulated for the build, been on the paint etc since January (am slow) - however lets me spread the cost out of parts, aiming for one part a month. I did purchase some lovely NOS wheels - the photo of them are a few pages back in this post. Even though bikes are cheap at the moment, unless you buy full builds and strip them, buying parts is still expensive.

Ok I have ran out of Viper Red Base coat, managed to give the area three or four coats required, am not buying any more - five x 400ml of spray tins (base-coat) I have used on the frame and fork.

Don't Touch Them! 🤪
