Can some one tell me is a Generation 2 Campag C-Record rear mech will work with the 8 spd syncro levers or will it only work as a 7 spd.

In general only the shifters and the cassette/freewheel need to match. But certainly if you are only going from 7 to 8 speed it should not be a problem.

Yeah its just I'm trying to get together a C-Record set.

I'd like the 2nd Gen rear Mech but the bike has a 130mm rear drop out and 8spd 130mm hubs seem more freely available than the 126mm 7 spd ones.

So I want to put 8spd levers, 8spd hubs and cassette with a Gen 2 Rear Mech.

For years I ran Dura Ace 7400 rear mech with a nine speed cassette, so the C-Record unit should have enough reach.

8spd levers, 8spd hubs and 8cassette with a 1990 Record rear gear will 100% work fine.
But 8spd levers, 8spd hubs and 8 cassette with the earlier c-record rear gear then NO, not 100% I'd be very very surprised if it indexed correctly across all 8 sprockets.
Earlier Campagnolo efforts at indexing i.e. 6&7 speed with those coloured index cogs that you had to fit to the down tube gear levers were very poor even at the best of times.
The 8 speed version was the first type that worked correctly & campagnolo then went on & introduced the Ergo levers with that version.
Good luck with trying though,
On a personal note I would't waste my time bothering to try. But thats me, but at the end of the day its your bike & it's what you want that matters.
If its the JCB Dyno-Tech then it would have the 1990 record setup which as I said was the later version of the Record rear gear.

Later 1990 onwards Record rear gear
Earlier C-Record gear
