You know the drill guys, you collect all the parts for your bike, get the forks painted, some parts anodised, you got to put it all together and it doesn't fit!

So I need the 1 1/4" Threaded fork steerer extended, has anyone ever done this or got a company to do it?

if you absolutely can't find a correct length one, I've seen it done where the steerer was cut, and an internal sleeve secured inside the two halves with the appropriate additional length apportioned in by way of additional 1 and 1/4" piece between the two original lengths, and then all tidied up. Ads a bit of weight, but works perfectly well (need a good fabricator).

Rather than make a cut, add a section in and move original thread up, giving two joins, I'd simply replace the top section and cut a new fresh thread.
That way the internal reinforcing insert can be smaller. Good idea as you need to make sure that it doesn't interfere with the stem fit, but it also can't be so long that the butt on the steerer gets in the way.

I can do it for you, and have steerer tubing, the die and handle to cut the thread, too. PM if interedted.

All the best,

I had it done to my Accu-trax for my large Yeti Ultimate. Came out great, and works perfectly. Had an experienced metal fabricator do it.

Re:

I think I read somewhere that the steerer on a Funk fat fork is titanium and is bonded to the aluminium crown/blades. That'll be fun!

How short is it? Couldn't you try another headset with a shorter stack height?

This steerer is steel I believe, it's a good 2" short, can't even do the first headset nut up! I'm hoping danson67 can save this build for me.

Re:

Was the fork found at a later date and then painted to match the frame? They don't often get separated, so I can only imagine that's why it's too short.

Found the discussion; here. Hopefully yours is steel in which case you should be able to get it extended by a frame builder.

I bought the frame and fork of a forum member and he said they would fit! They didn't originally belong together as the fork was purple.

The steerer is steel, i'm not 100% convinced the fork is an original Funk one though, but looks pretty close.
