Just chiming in on the tyres; they're slow on the tarmac, but that's to be expected, right? I averaged 23km/hr on today's ride and I was pushing it as hard as usual on my road bikes where I'm usually averaging 30km/hr. I think the Billy Bonkers were faster, but these are on all for the light tan wall so I'm AOK with them.

I've signed up for a 90km charity ride this weekend and have chosen to ride this bike instead of the carbon race bikes I own. Why? Because I'm in it for the pain haha! I've at least got some bar ends on there now so I can alternate hand positions for the Sydney to Gong ride. Should be a lot of fun!

We did it! Wild that my friend and business partner Nick and I were out of breath after 2 laps of Centennial Park last December, but yesterday with Gina, Reggie and Eugene we rode 86km’s from Sydney to Wollongong and with the help of donations we raised $1,560 AUD for MS.

Despite the slow rolling tyres, forks bottoming out and my cassette and headset coming loose, it was a great day out! I stopped in to a rest stop half way and a volunteer mechanic put a spacer behind the cassette which only made things worse as my gears were way out of tune for the rest of the ride (YOLO!).

The GT got a LOT of love throughout the day, one guy even asked me if he could take a photo of it! Great vibes, great ride!

Little video of my mate Eugene, who's not ridden trails for 30 years, and me in front on the GT.

Man... thank God for Five Ten shoes and DMR pedals! I was literally holding on for life on some of the more rocky bits.

Eugene had a 2011 Giant Trance X, we swapped bikes at some stage, and yup, dual suspension is for me. So plush, and you can really rail tight corners and bomb the techy stuff. Definitely more what I'm used to, but I expected the GT to be sketchy fun, and 5km's in the chain broke, but hey, we both had an awesome time out! SO good to be back out on the trails!

I think I'll definitely use the GT for more urban adventures vs trail stuff, and perhaps the odd gravel/easy trail ride. I've got an itch for a modern dual suspension bike though, or maybe even an e-MTB?! 5km's in and I was buggered on this thing!
