1993 ? Diamond Back Axis

I spotted this recently and was drawn by the fact it had a full XT groupset, excluding cassette, for a good price. The plan was to use it as a donor for some of my other bikes but I must be getting soft in my old age and it's too nice for that so I will most likely add it to the collection as is. From a bit of searching I think it's a 93 but it seems the Axis that year was LX equipped ?. The frame looks like it had very little use so doesn't appear to be a case of parts being upgraded as they wore out. Does anyone have any info on the year and if the XT kit is indeed original to the bike. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I’m new to this forum but you’re right it’s a ‘93 Axis - I know because I still have one that I bought from new in 1994. Apart from the handlebar grips it looks 100% original to me even down to the tyres if they’re Smoke / Dart? There’s a small chance that I may still have the copy of MBUK that tested it and gave it 9/10. I haven’t ridden mine in quite a few years but you’re inspired me to get it out of the shed!

yeah its either a 93 or a 92.

Thanks for the replies. As far as I remember it's the original smoke and dart tyres. I need to dig it out and give it a good clean but being kept busy with my sons moderns bikes at the moment so not been doing much with my own bikes.
