As a guess.. I'd say the small size posed problems with cable run, the straddle carrier fouling the frame inside the third triangle when lever is pulled.

Thingeo you know whatjamacallit.

Found four other bikes that way all 14.5"
Plus the serial shows it production not proto.
But still just four, and yours is probably one one of them rebuilt.

Still a lovely frame....and definitely rare nonetheless
...I think it would have had 2X4 forks...but I'm sure someone's going to snap her up. Good luck with the sale.

Pretty cool frame. Would like to hear more from any GT experts on the history of this configuration. Could it have been a one off proto? Would the fork have been ChroMo? Perhaps Steve or GM will chime in???

Not rare at all...and standard production....All the late 92 and 93 14.5 and some of the 16" frames were built this way. Shimano finally delivered their first small size low profile canti's sometime late the 1st quarter of 93. Heel clearance was the issue on the small frames so they stayed with the U-brake.

I remember Techno Pete riding one in 1993 at bicyclexpo in London he was just an extreme rider not GT sponsored.
