1990 Jack Taylor Tourist Tandem #8638 FINISHED pg7

Oops!

That bike has had a hard damp life
Thing is, me and the boy sat on it and now we just can’t let go of the plan.
I feel a Peachy cull might be needed to raise capital!

Right, it’s back and using my half full glasses I’ve decided it’s worth doing up.
Couple of positives have happened, first the good form from the previous (temporary) owner giving me a partial refund, then after discussing the frame with Steve at Arthur Caygill I’m going to save a fair amount by removing the various details from the frame myself (redundant pump pegs, old school BB steel tube guides & coaster brake mounts) also we discovered that after closer examination the front seat tube can be saved as all the various cracks were only paint deep and the rammed in seat pin is aluminium so I’m going to treat that to some caustic soda.
The rest of the work (including a new chain stay) will be done by AC including a baked enamel paint job sometime in January, so that gives me a while to sell a bunch of parts. 67BAC212-3EA0-4F1B-B21D-957E68811987.jpeg E665ED0B-7D6B-482D-9EED-19F696BC0A5A.jpeg 346B27EE-9E2B-442C-AC72-950B73C0D007.jpeg 52668BBF-A115-4789-A969-FF5738903162.jpeg

Just dont tell him some daft sod has cut the BB shell in half!

Good news. On reflection many would call this a basket case but it’s a Taylor built by the lads so well worth the effort.
I have, probably, just what you were looking for; a 24”+22” Taylor frame. This time last year I might well have moved it on (but only if a 24” single JT could be found to replace it). It was looking for a wall big enough to hang up on - no easy thing when you live in a 175 year old terrace cottage.
As fate would have it I made the acquaintance of two retro-mad club riders who were pretty mean time trialists in their day and when I mentioned the possibility of building up the frame in TT guise for them to try their eyes lit up like Christmas trees!
Still looking for a stoker stem and solution to the oversized rear BB shell (I’ve bodged a square taper axle in which turns nicely with just the cranks on but is sure to self-destruct with 1500 watts going through it!)
Here it is it partially built up. Apologies for the clipped photo, I couldn’t stand any further back!
