It’s a Bianchi Merlo. Bought new in Japan circa 2015 and gradually upgraded; originally equipped with Altus etc.

I have the V version of those on the missus’ bike. Found them new on the bay few years ago. They are rather nicely made as you say, and work really well. Came with Kool Stop pads too!

I have the tyres in brick red, but in 1.7 rather than 1.9 or 2.1 (?) shown in the brochure. They look unused. Funnily enough I was going to try them on my Dogs once it’s back from the painters. I can give you a shout if I decide against them (if of interest )?

Sorry to hear about your uncle. It’s difficult to be certain without seeing the details of the lugs but it looks to be the King of Mercia model, probably late 70’s / early 80’s. Very nice.
