    Chainstay spacing - please educate me!

    So I'm trying to get to grips with the intricacies of the vintage road bike... If a frame has 120mm chain stay spacing, then it can fit an older rear cassette, but not a newer one!? :facepalm: Which will fit, which will not!? Help!
