still loving it.. though not ridden it a huge amount recently.. (limited mostly to fun rides with my daughter on the tag along at LUBP!) as ive been mostly riding the modern bikes for the last few weeks..
Have upgraded the dropper to a KS Lev 27.2 (ebay bargain!) which saved a bunch...
perfect for pootling along towpaths with some light offroading inbetween..
bit spinny on the road.. (i try and avoid roads where i can..) but i just back off and coast or go back to pootle mode if that happens :)
transformed into a singlespeed 'gravel' flyer for winter night rides after work..
from 'hardcore' XC Trail Hardtail... to 700C wheeled rigid forked flyer..
tis versatile this 'Ot!
19lb in this guise! 8)
what is this hideousness you speak of?!?! * Vomit Emoji * :D :P
it does have an emergency Granny ring tho for er.. end of day no energy emergencies... but dont tell anyone.. oval single rings are the future!
took the hot for its first 'proper' ride in the Peak this last weekend.. (its done a few hundred miles of local stuff up until now..)
From a Rainbow to sideways rain and gail strength winds..
Its had a few more parts upgrades and is now pretty much where i want it to be.. so it might be...
no i dont mind :)
another thing ive found.. is that due to their increased weight and resulting carcass stiffness (compared to maxxis..) ive ended up running a couple less PSI for the same sort of feeling..
currently 21 front 24 rear for woodsy fun type riding.. :)
i saw some of a gmbn...
Theyre running orange seal endurance sealant.. couple of extra wraps of tesa tape on the (non-tubeless) mavic rims and they sealed first time..
The Barzo's have really impressed me..! probably the best all round XC/trail tyre ive ridden..
Ive ridden Maxxis for probably the last twenty...
Re: Kona Hot 1998 Singlespeed..
its had a few additions to turn it more into the bike i want to ride..
100mm Marzocchi Corsa Air forks.. custom tweaked internals.. and with an RC3 damper, self sprayed black.. with a rainbow flake to match the frame.. :D
Dt swiss 350 Front hub on mavic...
in the last couple of pics..
USE Flow Carbon 31.8 40mm rise - have been cut (properly.. with a park carbon saw blade) to 720mm
just taken them off actually, as ive managed to get a pair of my favourite bars to go on instead.. might sell them.
bikes had a few updates since those pics too..!
ive used the park carbon saw blade to great success.. (on handlebars)
plenty of water on the area whilst cutting to contain the dust.. a dust mask.. and something underneath that can be chucked straight in the bin to catch the dust.. (carbon dust is evil stuff!) nice long gentle strokes...
bit of a long shot.. but does anyone have one of these specialized s-works hubs or a wheel with this hub in it they would like to sell?
the main shell needs to be in decent cosmetic condition.. but aside from that i have the parts to replace / repair the rest of it..
i used some of these on my 700c 'gravel style' rockhopper..
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Litepro-BMX- ... 4024606965
theres more than enough power (i can lock either wheel easily..)
and they work with either long (v brake) or short pull (canti levers) brake levers on skinnier 700c tyres...
