    I'd not thought about the hub width of the harden hub.....the falcon I'm picking up does have wheels, so i'm in no rush, and will do as you suggest, stick a cog on and use that as the basis of the build. I'd wondered about the need for a shorter bb.. I will consider this. Cheers for the advice!

    That looks hard core! I was figuring that as its an old frame with horizontal ish ( def not vertical dropouts) I should be OK and add a tensioner if I really needed.. I'll look into shorter cranks I think and also the pedal profile. What sort of gearing would be advised for the rolling...

    And here's where I ended up Most was reused. A couple of bits from 'the bits box'. All in about £65. Most of which was paint, decals and replacement hoods.... Took it out today..rides like a dream.
