    '90 Stumpjumper Comp framebuild

Will you keep the grey colour on the frame? Love how it is all coming together. These Mission tyres are very light rolling yet nice and plushy. I really love them and I think they would look nice on there. Are you sure about the yellow bartape? Not that it looks bad but I'm not able to keep...

    Retrobike resolutions 2025?

Reduce the collection, clear out some stuff I don't want or need, don't start any new projects, finish projects that have already been started... I didn't manage to keep any of my resolutions, but I had a lot of fun doing it. I think I'll set myself the same goals for 2026 😁

'94 Dawes Special Edition (no 10/250)

Hello folks, some years went by but we found another one and saved it from the landfill... No. 102 of 250 Looks to be in pretty good condition and barely ridden. A little tinkering with it will be done surely 😉

    1995 Breezer Lightning

Thank you! There are some for sale in Berlin right now. There are a few for sale in Germany right now. They are either pretty beaten up or quite expensive as I just found out.

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

Thank you @pedestrian! I feel the same way, it's always like a mini holiday, especially the todays ride thread. The area is far from being a park, but I know what you mean. The route took us around a military training area and the area is quite sparsely populated. In the game Dirt Rally, you...

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

I only got them for a trip on an MTB where I couldn't fit any racks. This colour was half the price ant 20% off on top. Best invest ever! they are more than enough for a 3 day trip and they fit every bike I own. The zippers could be a little more robust...

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

Thank you! It was my first taste of a bike from the 80s and I love the comfort it provides while still being capable of handling quite some rough stuff. There will be lots of happy miles on it in the future.

And is the cain length correct? I mean every cog is unusual, isn't it?

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

Then May arrived and we were finally ready to go. As there are few sources of food in the area we wanted to explore and temperatures were expected to drop below 10°C at night, we took a little more luggage with us. The tour took place almost exclusively on single trails and the bikes...

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

After the first few kilometres, it was clear: this bike is just right for the planned retro bike tour in May. I then did a few more test laps until I was happy with the setup and fitted a small front rack and a brake booster at the rear, which significantly improved the performance of the old...

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

The handlebars were a different story... Once I had removed the mouldy and completely crumbly remains of the grips, it looked pretty gruesome. However, there was enough wall thickness left that I could continue to use them without any worries after treating them with a brush, sandpaper and...

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

But now it was time to start the refurbishment work... I had bought a set of Hutchinson tyres at a bargain price in a sale at some point and thought the red logo would look good here. The width was also right, so I put them on. The rims confirmed my initial assumption. They run completely...

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

I hadn't heard of the Campus brand before, so I looked it up online. And lo and behold, it's a company from Bruchsal located between Heidlberg and Karlsruhe that has been manufacturing bicycles since the 1950s and also built mountain bikes in the 1980s. In the 1990s, however, they began to...

1987 Campus ATB - better through the woods than to the scrapyard

Here's a little story about a bike I didn't want at all and now really like. On the morning of my birthday this year, Mrs KayOs went to get bread rolls and came back saying, ‘The neighbour has an old bike out for the kerbside collection. Would you like it?’ She showed me a photo and before...

    1995 Breezer Lightning

Okay, I'm nowhere near that. That's a really impressive collection. If it weren't so far away, I'd head straight over to take a look! Maybe next year 🤔 2024 was indeed a crazy good year and I still don't know how and why....

You save where you can 😆 It's a bit silly you're right, but on the other hand, I have damaged extremely light tyres much more often than light wheels.
