Indeed. I liked the green more. But availability is and was an issue.
Best part of these framesets is the fork, though. A few years ago I emailed Genesis to try and buy a fork off them, but there were none left. The guy told me however that these forks use a 40mm offset. Which is not a lot for...
Thanks! I live in Germany.
And I am definitely not selling those skewers :P
I never even knew they made front ones until I found this set on the local craigslist equivalent.
This is how it stayed up until last year, when I dreamed up a new brake setup. XTR 988 levers and two-piston Magura Trail SL calipers.
Works as intended. The older style Magura rotors seemingly use a different kind of steel, compared to the new ones. These brakes are much less powerful...
In 2019 I tried different bars and a shorter stem and changed back to a full Shimano brake setup, albeit with a Zee caliper in the front and a XT for the rear.
I then managed to find a 0° 70mm Thomson stem and put back on the Fleegle bars.
Then came a custom wheelset, that I ordered from a well-known german wheel builder. Purple Hope hubs, black Spank Oozy Trail 295 rims, Sapim Laser spokes allround and coloured nipples to match the bike.
The dropper post was also a big improvement. Might not look that nice, but it's been in...
This has to be my favourite bike, in a way, as I own it the longest and I change parts on it the least.
I got it in July 2014 as an ex demo bike from a bike shop where nobody was willing to buy it. It was reasonably priced at €500,-.
It originally came with 160mm rotors, which meant the rear...
A good friend offered me a NOS 2002 Marzocchi Z2 Atom Race ETA for the Kinetic. Steerer might need some trimming still, but otherwise it fits like a glove and rides excellently (for a fork of that age). I did not think that the ETA would be necessary, but the fork is very active on the uphills...
Long cage derailleurs are called RD-M735 SGS, short cage derailleurs RD-M735 SS. See here.
I've got a Dura Ace rear derailleur on my Catalyst, combined with a 12-28 cassette and 34t/46t chainrings.
The Thomson stem fits the bill, at least for me.
I'd love to get a quill stem, but the bars will have to stay. And they do not play nice with stem without removable faceplates.
Changed tyres, put on a brake booster and finally got to put on the bars that I wanted to put on from the start. Not entirely happy with the stem, though. Will be trying out a Thomson Elite stem with some rise next.
Adding the booster improved the front brake even further. Bars were cut to...
Very cool bike!
That kind of Gatorblade really is surprising for a Brodie built in '87. Also the crown/steerer intersection is looking very suspicious! I've got the same third gen Gatorblade fork as well as XT headset and there is almost no gap between the front of the fork crown and crown...
Pads were fairly new salmon coloured Kool Stops...it was decent for a canti, but nothing to shout about compared to a V-brake.
I'm a sucker for powerful brakes and mismatching parts. So I'll keep it that way.
The Kinetic has been my go-to bike for this winter. It never really was cold enough for the ground stay frozen and it rained a lot. So all the trails were super wet and sloppy most of the time and I had no worries at all riding through all of it on the blue bike and not caring to clean it.
Tyres...
I took out the Catalyst today. Haven't ridden the bike since my last post in this thread. Weather and trail conditons were not ideal...
Since the last ride I had changed the front brake to an Avid SD 7. It's a V-brake and the Suntour lever supposedly works best with canti brakes, but the...

I do not think it is.
The Suntour shifter is indexed and works remarkably well with this version of Dura Ace RD. As far as I know it's the version that came with the first ever STI levers, which is incompatible with almost everything else, apart from the Suntour stuff. It's not perfect but it's...
