And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

I didn't know this. Are the Super the top of the line or were the Elite? I'd find the history of these pretty interesting to read

I guess you are right! At that price they can't be too hot, and I'm not looking at selling although I have seen a few sets in the £150 area

Soooo....hand sanding a whole frame is hard work. Jeez. I've got the headtube and 3/4 top tube done...and now I'm thinking of just making sure it's keyed well enough to do a decent enough job!

none within 50 miles. to be honest, i'm not spending a tenner a time shipping these everywhere before even considering parts and labour. especially as they also need spraying and new decals. i will cut my losses and look for a working set that i can sneakily just fit and use :D

And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

i've just chatted to TFTuned - apparently knowledgeable fork servicers.....they wont touch Manitous this old  and in fact, don't even like the modern Manitou as there is very little European support for them  Looks like they'll be sent back and my dream of owning a set of these...

Thanks dude. They've got issues so may have to return them. I've trial fitted them, reduced the damping and eventually managed to wind the preload off but only getting about an inch of travel. Any ideas?

How random @dyson , I come across you again and probably in need of manitou spares! How did you get on?

So I've got my Manitou forks through the post and they seem very stiff, although I haven't fitted them to anything. Anyone know what year they are and where I can find a service manual...

And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

Long time since posting! Been wrestling with a few personal things so not much progress. I've finally got the FM fully functional so I'm using it on rides with the kids. And I've fully removed all the decals and I think all the clear coat from the Kula. Gonna grab some paint stripper to get...

And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

So the FM is at 11.8kg, or 26lbs. Pretty happy with that all things considered. The new frame has that down to about 11kg and I still have wheels and drivetrain to mess with. Started to flat back the new frame today but it is one of many projects this summer!

And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

you're probably not far off mate, i cant pick it up as it's too bulky so we will never know! i also can't afford carbon! have you not seen how cheap i am with what i buy? i appreciate someone coming back to me on the drivetrain question! are the shimano compatible? I can't afford new...

And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

May not be a surprise but I've done bugger all to this 🤣 We've had terrible weather, I've been busy with work and building a garden bench! Also some bits on the car needed doing. I'm over on ukmkivs if anyone else is and wants to look 😉

And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

Is drive side a pre requisite for all projects? 🤣🤣 Anything I buy now needs to be transferable to the Kula eventually. I'm unsure what drivetrain to go with, xtr cassette is still heavy and a lot of cash, I've read that SRAM are compatible but lighter and cheaper? Or at least similarly priced...

And so it begins...again - the Fire Mountain weight Loss project

Quite possibly! In other news the FM is now completely built up in all its glory. Had a quick ride but need to adjust the front brake and the mech. It rides pretty nice now I've stacked the spacer under the stem. When I get the chance I'll weigh it then switch the focus of the thread to the...
