1999 Kona Hei Hei... 98 Oem+ Rebuild.. Update 01/07/22

well its finished sort of.. (finally!). 2022 has been hectic with moving house & getting married so bikes had to take a back seat for a while though I'm glad to have this running in time to enjoy the summer.

I'm pleased with how its turned out mixing a blend of retro parts with some new for an OEM+ feel, last few bits to change will be a Thomson stem to match the post. the rubber boot for the rear mech barrel adjuster & I'm still hunting for an original Kona seat clamp as the frame was missing this when i bought it.

Weather permitting it'll get its maiden voyage this weekend, looking forward to seeing how the long haired colonel finds it compared to the Lava Dome i built for her previously.

Lovely job! The Thomson stem will set it off nicely. I've saved the latest pics to my 'bike inspiration' folder.

Sweet frame, nice build but the down-tube decals aren't correct. The white border is too thick. It's something I've mentioned a number of times over the years, and to Gil. I appreciate everything he's done, I do wish they'd be adjusted. Case in point:

hi Al, I'm aware the decals aren't quite correct and if you look particularly closely you'll also notice my placement of the DS DT decal is slightly off compared to where it would have been from factory on a 98 Hei Hei..

i can live with the outline not being correct, after all they are re-pro decals however i am mightily annoyed at myself for getting the placement wrong when i fitted them 🤦‍♂️

I wouldn't beat yourself up too bad. One of the great things gs about Ti frames is when you want you can easily pull the decals buff up the frame and have another go

at the time i was discussing the placement with Pip who said exactly this!
We all try and achieve perfection or at least a high level of completion on our bikes (otherwise we wouldn't likely be on this site) but I can promise you when ripping down some single track you won't be able to tell its off a little, nor will you care.
