Yeah, I did wonder about the bottom bracket. Hopefully it'll do for the short term.
Thanks for the dropouts offer. I'll see how I get on with single speed but It's good to know I've got that option should I need it.

Nice project. Hellodave bought a big stash of spare parts from Ebay - I got an Octalink BB from him that was as-new. Might be worth PMing him as there were ISIS ones amongst them all - he might have a good 'un cheap for you that he might have no use for - you never know!

Specifically, the bolts never stayed tight, even with that lock tight, so cranks fall off easy. And not that smooth out of the box either to be honest. But I imagine some are better than others. Problem with ISIS is availability and price. Don't want to spend 50 quid on new one

I'll give them ago, if I have trouble I'll switch them out for hollotech or similar.
I spent some time cleaning parts today and It's all cleaned up surprisingly well.
Sturmey-Archey sprocket is now all shiny and hub bearings are nice and smooth with no play.
Decals on the Sun rims are intact but there's a missing spoke I'll need to replace. I expect I'll change the tyres too.
As for the rest there are some scratches and marks but it's all perfectly usable stuff considering it's over 15 years old.

Unfortunately I found a split in the rear rim so having that replaced has swallowed the money I'd put aside for upgrades (disc brakes). I went with Halo White Line Classic 26.
It's getting difficult to source replacement rim brake rims. The only companies still making them seem to be Halo and Ryde.
Anyway other than the new rim, I've replaced the chainring with a 34t Surly, new On-One grips, Crank Brothers Pedals and Avid brake blocks. At some point I will look at replacing the stem for maybe a 70mm. Not sure I'll get away with anything shorter than that.

I took it for a spin after lunch and it felt really good. Even the brakes worked 
I don't like the seatpost, I think it looks really ugly. When I've got the cash I might replace it with a dropper with external cable routing. Only issue is, being a single speed there are no spare cable bosses.
